Pivotal Moments

Every business has pivotal moments that kick things up a notch. One of those moments happened for me in 1999, shortly after I went live with a new thing called a “website”. Within weeks, a reporter from Tickler magazine had gotten wind of my virtual office services serving Financial Advisors and wanted to write about it. The name of my company at the time was “Gal Fridays – The Paperwork Professional”. It had always been my dream to take my company national and that’s just what happened within two months of the article being published. A Financial Advisor by the name of David J. Drucker, owner of Sunset Financial Management (do any of you long timers remember him?) gave me a call. He had just moved his practice from Maryland to New Mexico and wasn’t interested in having in-house staff anymore.

To my surprise, Dave was also a writer and wrote for many of the top financial magazines. He started writing articles about his virtual team and soon other advisors were contacting him for my number. I’ll never forget getting a call from him, he said “Sherry, I am getting a lot of calls from advisors that would like to talk with you about your services. If I give them your information, you have to promise me that as long as I am with you, I will be your number one client.” I agreed and from that time on my business, now Total Office, Inc. grew. As for Dave, he stayed my number one client until the day he retired, approximately 16 years later! He continued to write about our relationship, including in his published book with Joel Buckenstein “Virtual Office Tools, For A High-Margin Practice” another pivotal moment for me and my company.
